It was about a young girl named Sara Crewe, the daughter of a rich English merchant with a business establishment in India. Sara lives lavishly in a boarding school in England. In this coming-of-age narrative, at 11 years of age Sara’s fortune changes dramatically when her father dies suddenly, and she was forced into servitude. Throughout her own troubles, Sara demonstrates a kind and caring heart and later regains her fortune. Voted as ‘Teachers’ Top 100 Books for Children’ the story is a great read for all ages.
